Housing Equity

EBR Council on Aging

The East Baton Rouge Council on Aging is mandated by the Older Americans Act (OAA), to respond to the needs of Americans aged 60 and over in the local community with the goal of keeping seniors living independently in their own homes. Senior Centers are an excellent way to break social isolation by engaging seniors with their community, in a safe and enriching environment.

ARCH housing

The COVID-19 pandemic has had serious consequences in addition to the tragic health related losses. With a steep increase in homelessness concurrent with a sharp decrease in available shelter beds, ARCH took on the tremendous task of temporarily housing nearly two thousand people in local hotels and motels.

We understand that finding a place to call home is a fundamental step towards building a stable and prosperous life in a new country. That’s why our Housing Equity Program is dedicated to providing the necessary resources, connections, and education to help our community members achieve this goal.

Our Approach

Resource and Connection to Key Housing Partners

Navigating the housing market can be particularly challenging for refugees and immigrants. To address this, we have established strong partnerships with key housing providers and organizations throughout Louisiana. These collaborations enable us to refer you to the most appropriate housing organization for assistance and guidance in securing suitable housing.

Outreach and Educational Events

Education is a cornerstone of our program. We believe that empowering our community with knowledge is essential for fostering long-term housing stability. In collaboration with our esteemed partners, we get to host outreach events designed to educate refugees and immigrants about their housing rights, responsibilities, and available resources. These events provide valuable information on topics such as tenant rights, lease agreements, maintenance issues, and financial literacy.

By working together, we can ensure that refugees and immigrants not only find a place to live but also a place where they can thrive. Our collective efforts aim to create a more inclusive and equitable housing landscape in Louisiana.

Together, we can build a community where everyone has a place to call home. Welcome to LORI’s Housing Equity Program – your partner in finding a home and building a future.
