ESL (ENGLISH as SECOND LANGUAGE)

The journey of resettling in a foreign land is extremely overwhelming which brings cultural shock and many more. LORI with its commitment to keep serving the community of refugees and immigrants have come up with English as a Second Language (ESL) class. It is undoubtedly a crucial component of survival for people who migrated to an English-speaking country.

This basic ESL program will help you to develop the essential English skills to integrate with the local communities and foster social relationships. Additionally, you will earn the prerequisite for employment in any sector and accessing any essential services such as health, education, and government services. In general, English language competence will empower you and allow you to be involved in civic participation.

With our specialized ESL courses, we offer a varied range of English classes focusing on everyday English speaking competency to anyone in need.

Our Classes are focused in the following areas;

  • Practical Communication: Emphasis on everyday conversational skills to help adults navigate daily life, including greetings, asking for directions, and making social connections.

  • Life Skills: Including instruction on real-world living skills like grocery shopping and taking public transportation.

  • Cross-Cultural Integration: Promoting awareness of cultural variations and offering guidance on how to communicate effectively in a variety of social contexts.

  • Self Advocacy and Citizenship Preparation: Offering language assistance and informative resources to individuals seeking citizenship, which encompasses lessons on civics and thorough preparation for the citizenship examination.

ESL classes at LORI are designed according to the college semester system. The Spring semester is from January to May and the fall semester is from September to December.

Our classes are held two times a week.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays with a flexible schedule to accommodate even for a virtual session all running from 4:30 pm to 6 pm.
